Chalmers University of Technology traces its origins back to November 5, 1829, when the “Industrie Skole” (Trade School) was established in Göteborg. Initially called “Chalmersska Slöjdskolan” (Chalmers Technical School), it was founded using funds from the estate of William Chalmers (1748–1811), a former director of the Swedish East India Company.

At the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, we focus on building knowledge and conducting research that leverages the unique potential of chemical engineering to develop innovative, sustainable, and intelligent solutions. Our mission is to protect natural resources, enhance the environment, improve quality of life, and advance global health.

Our research spans a wide range of both fundamental and applied chemistry and chemical engineering, covering areas such as the intersection of chemistry with biology and medicine, materials science, renewable energy, chemical process engineering, materials recycling, nuclear chemistry, as well as theoretical and computational modeling.

The department’s faculty are deeply engaged in education, contributing to engineering programs, master’s programs, and doctoral studies.

Beyond research and teaching, we are also committed to various initiatives and collaborations that inspire young minds to explore and connect with the exciting fields of chemistry and chemical engineering.
